Adrienne Somera




Adrienne Somera has been the Science Coordinator at the Northwest Educational Service District 189 in Anacortes, Washington since 2008. In that position she works to help build a network of science education support across the state. She also provides professional development experiences on effective science instruction, science content, science module initial use, inquiry methods, formative assessment and science notebook strategies to districts. She is the co-director of the Northwest Assessing Learning Progressions in Science Math and Science Partnership. In 2005 she was a Teacher On Special Assignment with the North Cascades and Olympic Science Partnership. She worked with NCOSP team members to design professional development resources for science teachers across the region, including a handbook and facilitator's guide for Science Lesson Study. From 1997 until beginning work at the ESD in 2007, she was a science teacher at Mount Baker Junior High in Deming Washington. There she taught physical, life and earth science to 7th, 8th and 9th grade students and was also involved in many district level science initiatives. She has a Masters degree in Science Education (2002) and a Bachelors degree in Education and General Science (1997) from Western Washington University and is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent Science (2005).
